Cleanup up a View-Master Model D

Well, I finally caught up with a View-Master Model D, and now I see
why it's the "Mercedes" of viewers. However, I do have some questions
about it:
1) Can I use Halogen bulbs, such as Dr. T's 2.5V in this? Any
recommendations?
2) What's the best way to clean the lenses? They have some
dust, and what looks like some cloudiness which may just be
fingerprints or smudges.
3) The advance mechanism "sticks" sometime. Actually, it seems
to advance the reel, and then pull it part way back on the
return phase. I've looked inside, and things look clean and
nice. This seems to be a common problem in older viewers, so
I assume there's a standard fix for it.
4) The spring (at least I think it's the spring) makes a squeaky,
twangy noise when I operate the advance. Any suggestions on
how to quiet this down?
Thanks in advance for all advice.
Thanks also to Richard Koolish et al for organizing a great Stereo/New
England meeting yesterday. Although I couldn't stay for the whole
meeting, it was great to have a chance to finally meet some of you who
were just e-mail addresses to me (Hi, Jon Golden), to look at
equipment and to swap notes with some veterans. I hope to stay longer
at the May 19 event.
Cheers,
-pd
