I can make an even simpler suggestion for fixing your Model D...

    SEND IT TO DR.T AND LET HIM DO ALL THE WORK FOR $35!!!

    I still cannot believe how much work he did on mine (and how it looked
better than it would have brand new!) for what is essentially slave wages.
Sheesh...he even shrinkwhaps the darn thing!
