Thanks For Viewcard Card Format Information & Miscellany

Thanks Bob (Mannle) and others who responded to my request for the subject
information. It was very helpful and should get me along with what I want to
do. The group of folks who contribute to other members queries is such an
asset to our interest I cant image getting along without it! Ive been in
Orlando for the past week and am just now responding to my E-mails.
I made a curious observation while taking in the 3D at Disney. I noticed in
both "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" and "Muppet 3D" that the infinity (or far
points) had the greatest amount of on screen parallax and the near point
objects (at the window or screen plane) had zero. I always thought the
far/infinity points should coincide, on viewcards, mounted pairs and in
projection. Where have I been mislead?
Also, for Tim who is doing the Computer Graphic work, find a good service
bureau and they should be able to tell you everything you need to know. They
are found in the darndest places though, my partner and I found one in the
"Quick Silver Photo" place we take our regular film to. In the back room
they have a nice computer system with all the works to output computer files
to film and print. Check around! Keep in mind that just about any file
worth putting to film will be rather large (even compressed) so you may need
to take it there on a SyQuest type drive or other high density storage media.
Youll find out real quick that a you wont be able to get much on a 1.4Meg
floppy!
Also, for Jon O who is considering resurfacing his mirrors, coating mirror
surfaces like these are done in process much like cookies are made, only far
more expensive. These coatings are done in a large (usually) vacuum chamber
which has to be set up and loaded with the glass substrates and all the
materials which are to be coated onto the substrates. The door is closed and
the chamber is pumped down to a fairly high vacuum. After some knob twiddling
and some $2,000.00 later, air is let back into the chamber and the parts are
removed. Simple math will help you predict how much each piece will cost
after this process is performed on a batch of parts. If you can get more
than one or two pieces in the run you may be able to get the per piece price
down to about $1.00! But you cannot avoid the $2,000.00 cost to perform the
process. On the other hand, there is all kinds of glass already coated which
would probably suit you just fine. I have a vast network of sources for ALL
KINDS of new (not used) optical components. If you let me know specifically
what you are looking for I may be able to help. This also goes for any lens
folks are trying to find to fit in their viewers. If its related to optics
I can probably find a solution to your needs.
Also, yes Dr. George, the Detroit Stereographic Club has been improving in
the quality of the images we see there. I really think we are helping some
seasoned veterans find new challenges and at the same time giving the
neophytes the encouragement they need to go out and do some good
stereography. Remember too, all of your twin rig images qualify for the
Hyper assignment next month. Or have you resorted back to that.......
Realist camera.
