Please don't use the tool(any tool) to insert the chips!
You'll invariably scratch the images.
With any film I've used, the chips are stiff enough to insert by
grabbing the outside end and gently wiggling/shoving into the pocket.
After they are inserted all the way to the inside edge of the pocket, a
fingernail or the point of a nail file applied from the outside in will "pop"
the chip into the inner recesses of the pocket.
Unless, of course the inside grooves of the pocket are blocked or the
chip is curved.
In that case, the tool is useful to help open the grooves. For a curved
chip, grabbing the chip between thumb and forefinger and "muscling" the chip
in by flexing the chip can work.
Inspecting the edge of the aperture frame for where the bowed film is
keeping the chip from seating and using the all-purpose fingernail to push
that edge of the film back parallel is also a useful technique.
Dealing with those #$*&$@ teeny film chips and irregular reels is hard
to describe, but experience will eventually have you speeding along.
Use a lint-free cloth between the chip and oily skin of course.
