I was turned on to stereo by 1890s-WorldWar1 B/W glass slides. Objectively the
quality of the slides was poor: scratches, spots, Nth generation copies, the
lot. But there was a wonderful feeling of immersion in those scenes from
exotic lands (India, Japan, China).

This is my ill-tempered prejudice based on insufficient observation: club
competition prizes are usually awarded to people who are actively involved in
running the clubs. What this really means is that I can't see why the
particular photos won, but there is a correlation with who shot the picture!

Well, that's my reason for being an ill-tempered grump, and for not being
interested in photo club competitions.
