In digest 1207 Chuck Field asked:

This past Summer I found a Holmes style viewer in a second hand store in
Vermont which I purchased for $45. It was built by Keystone and the
literature is dated 1950. Its model number is No. 50 and its design is
considerably newer than the one you describe, but its purpose appears to
be the same. It came in its original box with manual and a set of "eye
exercise" stereo views with their box labeled 1340 Delta Unit.

The Viewer hood is made of a deep red bakelite and will not accomodate
eyeglasses. The slide bar is black bakelite encased in stainless steel
and is calibrated from front to back with a D circled, C, B, A, 0
circled (noted as far position), 1, 2, 3, 4 circled, 5, 6, 7, 8 circled,
9, 10 circled (noted as near position).

According to the instructions the unit is intended to train the eyes to
work together in order to fuse images presented to each eye. I would
guess from your description that yours is considerably older.
