My First Posting

Whew! Just finished reading through Digests 1201 to 1210 as a brand new
subscriber! This is wonderful. I see quite a lot of brains and techie stuff
(much of which is way over my head, I'm afraid), with scattered humor among it
all (thank God!). And a few names I recognize, most particularly the delightful
George Themelis (hi, George!). Where do you all find time to read and respond?
And are there any subscribers that aren't as technically advanced as the rest of
you, or am I alone in my ignorance?

Just a smidge about "where I'm coming from"--in spite of the warning in the
Digest 1210, I'll tell you that I live in northern West Virginia, about 90 miles
south of Pittsburgh, PA. Both my husband and I are stereo enthusiasts. We
shoot with 4, 5, 7 and 8 sprocket format, and more prints than slides (there's
more you can do with prints). I'm new to the internet, and am interested in any
suggestions of good stereo web sites and news groups. I'm an NSA member (for 8
years now I think) and would love to meet any of you in Rochester. I'm kinda
easy to spot, being 5'10" barefooted (yes, I usually wear shoes!). Oh, and my
3D techie passion is stereo tissues. I've been working for years (off and on)
to create modern tissues. I'm also interested in anything hand-drawn or
painted, and all the odd-ball stuff. Now, to address a few issues I've just
read:

1) What is an RBT (I feel so stupid asking this one)?

2) Does anybody know of 3D groups that get together in the Pittsburgh (PA) or
Youngstown (OH) area? I noted that Bruce Rosenberg is from Hellertown, PA, and
Terry Mills is from Schuylkill Haven, PA. Where are they? (I'm too tired right
now to drag out my atlas. Where's that coffee some of you were talking about?)

3) Greg Erker 2/29 defined "saskatoon." I'm here to tell you as one who has
travelled through that section of Canada when they were in season that saskatoon
berry pies are incredible!

4) Allan Carrano 3/4 said, wisely I believe, "rather please myself than someone
else." Bravo! I couldn't agree more. If I don't enjoy it, then what's the
point?

5) Bruce Rosenberger 3/6 - I enjoyed the survey results. Apparently I don't
quite run with the pack on most of those. But one answer that really got me was
about "Susan and David Pinsky." Well, I think David Starkman might well get
jealous! (though I'm sure it's not the first time he's been called that!) :)

6) Andrew Woods 3/6 mentioned the classic artwork converted to 3D by Shojiro
Nagata. The sneak preview we had in Atlanta at the NSA convention last summer
was incredible. I thought at that point they were talking about publishing a
book of those images. Any word on that?

7) There were various comments about stereo x-rays. A few years back at the
NSA convention, a retired dentist showed some phenomenal b/w slides of stereo
x-rays of flowers. Remember? Worth seeing if you haven't yet.

8) Does anybody know if Ray Zone has a web site or an e-mail address? I
thought I found a web site that was his, so I left a friendly message. Found
out it wasn't him, it was another Ray. Ooops! Felt really silly, though I
think the other Ray enjoyed the note. At least I hope he did.

Okay, I've taken enough of your time. Thanks for letting me join the group.

- Nancy Goodpasture Castro, somewhere in West Virginia, USA
(where, incidentally, it is supposed to snow up to 12 inches in the next 24
hours-yuck!)
