Invaders From Mars - MEA CULPA

Hi folks..
It looks as though I have created a bit of an uproar with my recent
posting regarding the "Worst Films Ever Made" series at the Eastman
House, and specifically The Mask. MY ERROR was including "Invaders
>From Mars" on that list. MY MISTAKE was in reading the article.
Instead of just announcing the "Worst Films", this article was
announcing the spring lineup of films in SEVERAL OTHER SERIES,
including their "Aliens" series, with "The Day the Earth Stood Still",
"Invasion From Mars", "It Came From Outer Space", and "War of the
Worlds". These were not intended to be considered as "Worst Films" in
any sense, and any confusion or consternation caused as a result of MY
ERRONEOUS POSTING is entirely MY FAULT.
I am unfamiliar with the sci-fi movies of the 50's, having done much
more reading of sci-fi as a kid than going to movies. I did enjoy the
stories from the 30's and 40's which ended up being the basis for many
of the movies of the 50's (albeit rather lamely on occassion - The
Thing (From Outer Space) was NOT "Who Goes There" in more than the most
basic form. To see that story done right, I had to wait until John
Carpenter's "The Thing" in 1982. Now THAT was my kind of science
fiction movie.
So, to reiterate: The Eastman House Staff are not illiterate,
"Invaders From Mars" is NOT in the "Worst Films" series, and MY OWN
IGNORANCE of and PREJUDICES against Science Fiction Films of the 50's
prevented me from clearly and correctly interpreting a newspaper aimed
at a tenth grade reading level. So sorry.
Regards,
Bill Davis, In the Corner, with dunce cap.
