->Excuse me for asking but can anyone tell me what the difference is
->between the
->Japanese version and the British version? (Aside from the obvious.)
->My Nimslo was made in the UK and is like new.

->Thanks for your help everyone

->P.S. We DO collect cameras as well.

There are numerous differences "under the skin". Well, actually, even
the "skin" is different! On the UK model it's impossible to remove the
leathers intact, whilst on the Japanese model they come off easily, and
go back just as easily.

On the UK model the strap lugs are bonded in, whilst the Japanese ones
can be unscrewed. (Actually, you need to unscrew the Japanese ones to
remove the top, whilst they can stay in place when you remove the top of
a UK camera...).

All the UK models had two printed circuit boards, whilst only the
earliest Japanese cameras had two. The solenoids are different, too.
What this boils down to is that the Japanese solenoids held on much more
efficiently, so the cameras were more reliable.

If I ever do any more conversions, I will work exclusively on Japanese
raw material. After all the hacking about, they can be made to work
easier! The conversion that I did for Gerek Merfield started off as a UK
camera, but is now very much a hybrid. I had to use Japanese parts to
get it to work...

Having said that, If a UK camera is still working, I would expect it to
continue working until you can't get any more batteries. The unreliable
ones have all died by now!
