Hi all;
In recent digests:
> From: abrohams@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Tim Onosko)
> Obviously, "worst" is relative, isn't it? For example, "Invaders
>from Mars" has a decent cult and critical following, and gets some
>attention for its art direction. (Menzies?)
>From Elliot:
>Menzies, who made "Things to Come" among others, created a low budget
>masterpiece in "Invaders From Mars." The film was originally designed
>to be shot in 3D, but it was not done.
>There is a surviving color print-- most people remember "Invaders..."
>as a b/w film,but it was originally released in color in 1953. It's a
>classy little piece of psychological horror from a child's pov.
And from Martin Simon:
> "Invaders from Mars" is considered a classic among sci-fi buffs, and
>if you've never seen in the the original SuperCinecolor, it is truly
>spectacular.
Here's the text from the International Museum of Photography website
(http://www.it.rit.edu/~gehouse/) regarding the upcoming screening of
Invaders From Mars:
"4/28 8 PM Thu. Aliens! INVADERS FROM MARS (William Cameron Menzies,
1953, 78 min.) An atmospheric sci-fi film, impressively shot in color.
Martians land in small-town America and start brainwashing the
residents. A young boy, an astronomer, a psychologist, and a military
unit join forces to fight the aliens."
Sounds like this is the one to see, hmm? I caught Things to Come on
the local PBS station about twenty years ago and thought that it was
excellent.
Sorry, this is off the 3-D topic, so I won't mention it to this list
again. The original topic was the 3-D segments in The Mask, also
scheduled to beshown at the Eastman House Dryden Theater.
Regards,
Bill Davis
