In contrast, Virtual I-O is really going after the market. Just today
I got a mailing from them offering an educational developers kit
(display, software, royalty free software routines, newsletter, etc)
for $900 (still pretty pricy, though). Interesting spec sheet...
They emphasize that the display does "True Stereoscopic Imaging" -
Field sequential - flicker free. 2 full color 0.7" LCDs, 180,000 pixels
per LCD panel, input of 1 NTSC channel. Field of view is equivalent
to 80" screen at 11 feet. Fixed focus at 11 Feet (but you can wear eyeglasses
with the display). Requires no IPD (?) Adjustment, 100% stereo overlap. For
computer use, it can support both field and line sequential 3-D formats.
It also senses head position (3 axis - roll, pitch, yaw, sampling at 250 hz),
and includes 20Hz-20Khz stereo speakers for audio built into the headset.
Sure would be nice to play around with one of these, but the price is out
of the "fooling around" range for me! :-) One of the
major problems, of course, is the lack of readily available movies/images.
Has anyone tried these?
THANKS
