Stereo Realist Thingamujig

I just picked up an odd stereo realist item I need help identifying.  It
looks like some kind of mounter.  It has three pieces.  The bottom is
approx. 5"x3"x.5" with a recess for a realist slide (my slides don't
quite fit; just a tad too tall).  The next is a metal frame that drops
into the bottom.  It has two openings where the chips go.  In the two
openings, are two small metal flanges that stick out into the openings.
The third piece consists of a handle with two realist window sized blocks
attached.  The blocks fit into the second piece and rest upon the
flanges.  What is it?
