How about a contact "print"? Put some film against the diffuser
and turn on the light. Solves the problem of getting the right
magnification.
Probably wouldn't be exactly right since it doesn't account for
the direction the light takes after leaving the diffuser.
I can't try this idea myself since I don't do any home developing
(except for holograms and I sold off all of my film), but its
a neat idea.
