If you look through your red button Realist viewer carefully you will
notice that the same is happening there, i.e., the left side of the right
image and the right side of the left image (around the physical center of
the viewer where the bulb is located) is brighter than the ends. This is
happening because the bulb is located at the center and the intensity of
the reflected light is higher at the center than the edges. This can be
reduced if the entire light compartment is painted bright white or covered
with good reflective material. Another way to reduce this problem is to
design the refector so that every point is in equal distance from the bulb.
This is not the case in any viewer I have seen.
I generally do not like the idea of two bulbs...

Can you build the viewer so you can remove the diffuser when you attach the
light box?
