The lighting must be more even than my viewer since I have never
noticed. I'll have to take a look at mine when I get it back (loaned
it out to a friend so he can look at my slides).

Any specific reasons? Seems like a good idea to me as long as
the diffuser is good enough.

I could, but it may not work well. The King Inn mounts only have
0.5" between the two images. It may not be possible to hide the bulb
between the two images like the red button does.
Plus my diffuser is about an inch away from the slide. For an
external light box the bulb is going to be more than an inch
from the slide. Which means some direct light will get to your
eye if you don't use a diffuser.

If you are using a mono-spaced font, the above is a top
view of the viewer and light box. The "()"s are the two
lenses. The first set of vertical bars is the slide and the
second set is the diffuser, an inch away. Behind it is the
add-on light box with "parabolic reflector" and the * is the
bulb. It's not exactly to scale, but you can see the difficulty
in removing the diffuser. The lighting on the reflector is not
very even, so removing the diffuser will make things worse.
(Not to mention the problem of possibly seeing the bulb directly.)
George, I'd like to hear why you don't like the two bulb
idea.
Thanks - Greg
