comet stereo pair

I got my comet Hyakutake slides processed and mounted. I had taken two sets of
increasing exposures, so I had two of each exposure taken some minutes apart.
I put a pair of eight minute exposures in a 2x2x2 viewer and sure enough there
is stereo. I was lucky to have the camera oriented so that the comets motion
is horizontal when the slides are vertical. I took it to the Photographic
Historical Society of New England meeting today, and everybody who looked at it
remarked on the stereo effect.

I also experimented with contact printing b&w negatives onto Fine Grain Release
Positive film to make a b&w transparency. It works quite well except for
getting the dust off the film. This looks like a way to make b&w stereo slides
if I solve the dust problem. The film is very cheap at $11.50 for 100 feet,
and you can process it in Dektol 1:2 under normal darkroom safelights.

By the way, I was able to get data sheets from Kodak on Saturday evening by
using their fax-back service. Their toll free number is 1-800-242-2424 and the
fax-back service is available 24 hours a day. In addition, you can get
small-tank developing times at off hours too. Just the thing for that midnight
darkroom work.
