What you want to look for is a dolly truck (or "track" if the dolly is
on rails), so that the subject is stationary and the POV shifts
horizontally something approaching the distance between your two
eyeballs. It's shuffling, but at a much higher speed, so the possibility
of the subject shifting position between frames is lessened.
The incompatibility between cartooning (animated or otherwise) and
stereo is that for the most part it is plano. The difference in camera
position will not ordinarily result in a differential between the left
and right image pair in the way we "seeing around" the object, because
there is no Z-axis information.
If the object were drawn and rendered in "3-D," that is with z-axis
imaging and/or lighting rotation consistent with a change in POV, then I
would think that a successful stereo pair would be possible...
