Many organizations book convention sites many years in advance and
facilities large enough to meet the needs of the NSA are in demand.
And there are surprisingly few facilities which offer everything needed
for trade fair space, projection facilities, and "reasonably priced"
lodging. Consequently, by the time NSA volunteers make serious
inquiries into the availability of facilities in a particular locality,
even for a convention several years in the future, most weekends are
already booked. Thus the NSA doesn't have much of a choice of
available weekends and has to take what's left. I recall being told
that for some conventions there were only one or two weekends available
during the summer season, this for a convention three or four years
away. So sometimes the NSA has to take what it can get.

When I was an officer the topic of moving the convention from summer
into the spring or fall months was a perennial topic of discussion.
Two arguments that I recall for retaining summer conventions were that
many NSA members are in education, and other members prefer to include
the convention in family vacation plans, and these groups would prefer
conventions when school is not in session. Right now summer
conventions preclude attendence for some members; changing the dates
will then affect a different group and then they'll be unhappy. There
didn't seem to be overwhelming dissatisfaction with summer conventions.

I don't know of any firm convention locations or dates beyond Seattle
next year. If any list readers feel strongly about this issue, write
LETTERS to NSA board members, especially the president, and vice
president for activities. See your Stereo World issues and your
membership directory for names and addresses. I'm certain that volunteers
to work on site and date selection would be greatly appreciated.

Me, I'll probably be there, anywhere, anytime!
