Lens sets, Revere & Wollensak

Scooter mentions the Revere lens sets. Piper had told me that the red-X
signifies a rejected board, either for lenses or shutter problems. But,
remember that many of the 1950s makers felt that +50% to -50% was pretty good
on the shutter speeds, while Wollensak expected speeds to a few percent. So,
they'd be much more liable to have "defective" boards turn up.
I do have a Wollensak F2.7 lens and shutter assembly without the logo (they
are usually missing), rubber stamped on the back X1 and M1, but I do not see a
red-X. It's priced at $195, and it looks great, but I wouldn't guarantee it
wasn't a rejected board. It really should make some experimenter happy ;)
Also, for the not so timid, I have a Revere 33 with a Wollensak board
attached (and someone re-inserted the Revere logo). It's got the F2.7 with
1/300 second speed, on a very good condition camera, with poor case. I have
not shot any slides with it, and although it looks okay, and the shutter and
advance seem okay, I would not guarantee it. Priced at $350, it should be the
cheapest "Wollensak" you'll find on the net, even if you have to rip it apart
and clean/align it!
Incidently, anyone adding a Wollensak board to the Revere camera, I've been
told by someone who does them, that the back of the board should be planed
ever so slightly. With a little bit of work, and countless hours of fun, you
should be able to save $400 or $500.
