I think it would take a lot of cracking to make any independent use of the
Virtual Boy system. As I think was the general opinion here at the time, it's a
pretty clunky system, and was pretty much foreordained to failure. Personally, I
was very fond of the old Sega system, which used alternate-field video. It may
have been cursed by being ahead of its time, before the current resurgence of
interest in 3D. It's so easy to guess at these things in retrospect. There's
still a lot of interest in 3D games, however, especially among computerists, who
are beginning to discover that "3D" is more than flat pictures with perspective.
It's just a matter of 3D Max or one of the other competing AF systems catching
on, and we'll be off on another round of the 3D fad (and I'm in agreement with
Dr. T that general-market 3D interested will always be destined to be a fad).
