3D for the masses

Another angle on all this:
Remember Quadraphonic sound systems of the 70's? Yeah, I bought a system,
too, and I really thought it sounded better. There were two competing
formats, but the whole thing collapsed because of lack of public interest.
It wasn't that the end result was not better than plain ol' stereo - I
think it was - it's just that it wasn' t <that> much better than plain ol'
stereo. And then there was the added costs and extra equipment. Setting the
time on a VCR suddenly becomes possible!
Some of us may not have a problem with the extra equipment...look at all of
us with those 3D gadgets lying everywhere! But we do it because we
personally enjoy the 3D experience and are willing to put up with all the
stuff that provides it. But it is improbable that the public-at-large will
accept it outside of amusement parks and worlds fairs. Besides, watching a
2-hour flick with glasses or whatever technology it takes is just too
uncomfortable, and we all know it.
Maybe our feeble human brains can only take small doses of hyper-realism at
a time. Let's enjoy what we have right here and right now.
Sincerely,
Michael D'Abrosca
