realist or Pentax stereo adapter

I'm a research psychologist and photographer studying the perception and
memory of realistic 3d pictures. I've done a few experiments using
pictures taken with a slide bar, but we'd like to get a database of faces
taken at a relatively close distance (3-4 feet so that the face fills the
frame). I'm trying to decide whether to get a Realist camera or a Pentax
stereo adapter. Various people have recommended both, and I'm trying to
see if there is a consensus out there. We'll be digitizing the images,
and I don't know if PhotoCD can handle the realist format. Our slide
scanner certainly could, however. Cost really isn't an issue, although
I'd like not to have to spend too much (so I guess cost really is an
issue, but not the primary one).

We'll be presenting the images on a computer using an LCD polarizing panel
in front of a 21" color monitor. Subjects view these from 6-8' from the
monitor using circularly polarizing glasses.

I'd appreciate any advice folks could give on this topic. I consider this
an important research field, in that it demonstrates that people
can remember and make use of the information presented in 3d images. My
work has the potential to help us understand how human visual memory
works, especially when storing the depth information encoded in 3d
pictures. Pending approval from our human subjects committee, I hope to
make this and other databases available to other researchers.

Thanks,
