Stereo formats

Just a slightly tangential note on the subject of stereo formats:

After recent experiments with medium format slide bar stereo, I've come to
really appreciate the detail the larger film chips offer. I'd love to have
a med. format stereo camera with good optics, which rules out the Sputnik.
The only other possibilities are cameras from the '30s, I believe, and
impossible to find. If anyone has any other ideas please speak up! I've
even considered constructing a camera, though thus far I've avoided it
since I know it would be a big project. Comments?

The other thing I'd like is a wide field stereo camera. Getting rid of the
"window" would produce an impressive immersive effect. But as John B.
explained the optics would cost a fortune. Still, I remember someone
mentioning that such a system was made (not for production). Can anyone
tell us more about it?
