TDC/Brick
I, too, am a Colorist booster. I bought my first, real,
stereo camera almost 5 years ago in the form of a Colorist
I, w/ manual and case - in ex. cond. for $100. Back then,
that was an average price and condition for them. I've owned
three total, and have never had severe mechanical problems
with them (I DID find, however, that my cable-release didn't
work too well w/ them - like they said, FIRM pressure on
that shutter button). They sometimes can stand a
cleaning/overhaul when the controls get too stiff. My
friend, Bruce, found that his Colorist needed the winding
spool to be attached back on the shaft w/ a screw. It IS a
beauty of a camera, under the fragile, thin aluminum casing
and the optics are as good as anything I've seen. I was
afraid to let this "secret" out, for fear of not finding
anymore as cheap!
Oh yes, I DO have a 2.8 "brick." It's the only other
Realist format camera I've retained. This is for "serious,"
"artistic" work. It has the centered viewfinder, the wide
range of speeds and the many accessories. But, I've done
relatively little "serious" photo-work these days :-), so
my Colorist II goes for the ride most of the time.
Speaking of optics, Bruce recently showed me his flattie
slides from his new Konica Hexanar. Now, we all lust for the
RTB Hexanar $tereo Cu$tom jobbie (this is how a life of
crime is started).
