Pushing K25? Use Sensia 100 Perhaps

Todd Eifert wrote about pushing Kodachrome 25 two stops and ending up with
graininess in the black regions. I'm not an expert on this, but I suspect
the graininess from the pushing was far more noticeable than if you had
just used Fuji Sensia 100, which a number of people on this list are
reporting good results from. I've shot about three rolls of it myself, and
the grain is a little more noticeable than with Velvia 50, but "it ain't
that bad." Many people find it to be quite acceptable, and it should be as
archivally stable as the rest of the Fujichrome line (estimated 35-50 years
before the first hint of a color shift).
For determining exposures in a concert setting, refer to the Kodak exposure
chart for existing-light conditions. Without getting into issues of color
balance due to tungsten stage lighting, etc., I can verify that this Kodak
chart is pretty accurate for determining "starting points." I've used it
for Christmas lights at night, and solved a few exposure problems right
away.
Remember that shooting a performer on stage is like shooting a picture of
the moon in a dark night sky. The exposure on _the subject_ is what you
"meter" for, not an average of the total scene. Stick with manual controls
all the way (not a problem if you're using a 50's vintage stereo camera).
Getting Pete Townsend to stand still for more than 1/15th of a second could
be asking a lot, however! He tends to wail on those strings...
A good person to refer this to would be Franklin Flocks, who's on this list
and who has done some incredible work taking 3D pictures of the Grateful
Dead in concert (as shown in Atlanta last summer). Franklin, you still
here? :)

Stephen Warren
