S&W versus U&U London Bridge

On 5/12/96, Sid Herbage commented that he had a London Bridge
Stereo View Copyright 1896 by Strohmeyer & Wyman which must be
identical to the Copyright 1901 by Underwood & Underwood view
that I described.

Sid, I think that they are the exact same view. I have other S&W
cards that are marked on the right border of the card "Sold only
by Underwood & Underwood". I suspect that your card also will be
marked that way. Also, Waldsmith's book STEREO VIEWS (page 53 &
54) in describing the history of Underwood & Underwood states
"They purchased the photoprinting works of Strohmeyer & Wyman,
and by 1901 they were producing 25,000 views a day....",etc. It
appears that U&U obtained a copyright at that time. Does that
make sense?

Thanks to all who contributed very interesting comments on the
London Bridge(s) - those in London over several hundred years and
the one now in Arizona.
