Pushing Kodachrome

Re: Todd Eifert's question about pushing Kodachrome -
Kodachrome can be pushed, although I've never heard of anyone
doing it with Kodachrome 25. - Pushing Kodachrome 200 two
stops to ISO 800, is a favorite technique of rock photographers
who shoot shows at large arenas, where the lighting is usually
balanced similar to daylight. - Pushing Kodachrome is not
cheap; and there are few places that will do it. - I believe
the places that will push Kodachrome charge about $30 extra per
push processing order. - The extra charge is a special set up
charge- The charge is the same, whether one or several rolls
are sent in for processing at the same time. -- I have not
tried this myself, but I have been told that the advantage of
using Kodachrome this way, as compared to E-6 push processing,
is that there is less of a loss of density in the blacks. - I
use Ektachrome 1600P, or Fuji Provia 1600, pushed to ISO
1600, for shows at large arena. - These films are really ISO
400 films which have been optimized to prevent color shift in
the blacks, when they are push processed. For smaller
theaters, where tungsten balance is more common, I used
Ektachrome 320T, either at its rated ISO, or pushed one stop.
