Dr. Dremel vs. the Kodaslide

I just finished the last stage of a conversion of a Kodaslide 1 to a
decent viewer. Last time out, I described my experiences using Dr. T's
manual re: the installation of a Themelis PS-1 power supply, replacement
the focus pad, installation of a new reflector, and widening the aperture
to 7 sprocket, as per the instructions in the book. If you want to learn
the necessary techniques, buy a book from him-- it's essential
information, and more than pays for itself in terms of the time it would
take to reverse engineer the Kodaslide on your own. The final step was to
remove the terrible plastic lenses that were in it and install a set of
Wollensak acromats, also available from George. The acromat swap is a
little tricky, but here's the easiest way...

1. Using a spanner, remove the lens element from the Wollensak housing,
being sure to note the orientation of the lens (yes, there is a front and
back!)

2. Chuck the empty Wollensak housing in a vice, and with a hacksaw, saw off
the back plate. It's aluminum and cuts easily.

3. With a Dremel and a file, remove the sharp metal and dress the threads.

4. Reinstall the lens and the retaining ring. and paint the shiny edge
(which is now bare metal due to your hacksaw) flat black with a paint stick.
