716 vs 116 TDC Projectors
In a response to a recent query about the difference between the models,
the following reply was given:
>>Is the difference in power really worthwhile ?
>No. You can always use 750W bulbs in the 116. The cooling fan is the
same
Although I agree the fans are the same, I would consider it risky to use
750W lamps in a 116. There are other differences: Although both machines
have lamp sockets with identical configurations, the 116 sockets are made
of bakelite, and the 716 sockets are porcelain. Furthermore, the 716
condensers are much more heavily heat-sinked in metal. To use the 750W
lamps in a 116 is to risk cracking the condensers and burning out the
sockets.
Having noted that, I must say that, having used both machines side by
side, I saw very little improvement in illumination from the 750s as
opposed to the 500s. Of course this was not a scientific test using all
new lamps and a foot-lambert meter. Also, as you may imagine, the power
demands of such a setup on house wiring are formidable.
I don't consider the carriers to be interchangeable, although the 716
carrier will fit the 116 with an adapter.
