Baird 3-D TV

Tom Johnstone asked about John Logie Baird's TV system...

JLB did a lot of work with mechanical/electrical TV in 20's and 30's. As
I recall his 3-D TV was essentially transmission of two views side-by-side.
The earlier systems used a scanning disk ~three feet in diameter and
gave a resolution of 36 to 48 lines. This signal could be recorded on a 78rpm
disk or transmitted by shortwave.
His systems eventually got up to around 200 lines, but were beat out by
all-electronic systems. As memory serves, though, electrical/mechanical
*receivers* were used in Britain's pre-war 405 line system.
Modern libraries don't have obsolete books on TV, but if you can find
some published in the early 30's, the mechanical systems are fascinating(to
me, anyway). Same for early 50's books on TV predicated on live(all there
was, except for kinescopes) TV production and broadcasting.
