I haven't tried overheads, I've used slides (made with a film
recorder attached to a computer).  The tricky part is always
getting colors in the image thatwork well the filters in the
glasses (you want e.g. the left eye's image to be invisible
against the background through the right-eye filter).

One approach if you can't get Kinko's to print out in colors
that work well with the glasses you have would be to make your
own glasses.  Theatrical supply stores sell colored spotlight
filter material in a variety of colors by the square yard
(cheap).  You could take your transparency along & rummage
around until you found a pair of filter colors that worked.
