I'll add my recent bonding experience I had with my Realist. This last weekend I
modified my flash shoe to work with my electronic flash (very tastefully if I do
say so my self, thanks to all who gave me advice). I also took off the lense
board and cleaned the flash/shutter contact. For those who have never ventured
inside, the flash is fired when and arm that connects both shutters reaches its
maximum travel and contacts a metal tab completing the circuit and firing what
every you contact to the hot shoe (hmmm, maybe the realist could be used for
much more). The circuit is simple, effective and just like a door bell. So, any
bulb/shutter sync is fully dependent on the bulb's timing required to reach peak
output and linking it with a shutter speed slow enough to accommodate it.(I will
avoid anymore X-rating, but I have a pretty good idea of the gender of the
bulb). Now one could try to adjust the metal contact to trigger the bulb before
the shutters were fully open to try to accommodate a faster shutter speed, but I
think you would never get those nasty floating bulb spots out of your eyes.:>)
