There is nothing inherent in IMAX-3D movies which makes them suitable
for only LCD or polaroid viewing. An IMAX-3D movie consists of two
rolls of 70mm IMAX film (one left roll and one right roll).
IMAX originally used two separate projectors to project 3D IMAX movies
but more recently developed the double decker IMAX projector for
projecting IMAX 3D movies with a single projector. The Sony IMAX
theatre in New York was the first theatre to use one of these projectors.
Either viewing system can be used.
On the topic of Anaglyph, The viewing technique is obviously tied
to the type of film. The IMAX short "We are Born of Stars" is an
example of this.
