NO! I didn't say that. Please re-read my posting more carefully. What
I said was that the *advice given* (to wit, to use only a shutter speed
of 1/25th second for flash) was correct only for bulbs (and then only
for M-type bulbs; type-F's should work up to 1/100th).
I think the authors were oversimplifying the issue, since this speed
would work with all types of flash, and thus the user would only have
to remember one number. By not fully explaining the details, and by
adding the additional caution against using any other speeds, they made
it sound like this is the only speed that would work reliably.
We beat this horse into a greasy black stain on the ground long ago. The
Realist is X-synched at all shutter speeds. Period.
(I've always felt it is better to give people all of the facts,
rather than try to distill them down into rules-of-thumb and leaving
advanced users without the whole story. You can still give the novice
the safe rule-of-thumb, and they can take advantage of the additional
information when they feel ready.)
