Flash Synch Experiments

The Realist guillotine shutter design does appear to permit flash synch
options comparable to so-called "professional," non-focal plane, leaf-type
shutter designs a la Hasselblad or Bronica. One can fool around with, say a
Vivitar 283/285 set on the yellow mode outdoors and get,for instance, a two
or three "stop "flash fill with an ISO 100 film.( Just reassuring you
subscribers who may feel automatic settings are verboten for outdoor
fill, since they work nicely for me.) Indoors, where flash is often, but not
always, the principal light, it is fun to shoot at a slow speed, 1/25 or
less to let room light act as fill. ( Do practice breath/body control of
your Realist, or give up caffeine.) I am reasonably steady, when not
imbibing, down to 1/15, slower with a monopod( one of the unheralded great
gadgets of all time. The Minolta IV Flash meter will also tell me,if I have
time to play with it, what the ratio of flash to ambient light is. That may
be one argument for seeking a sophisticated meter for stereo,...on the
other hand, maybe better save up for a TDC. Sorry, with all my drawerfuls of
photographica, I can't spring for the travel to Rochester. Ah well, Next
year maybe in Seattle. Aloha , Gerry Siegel, Mililani Town,
