Hello everyone:

Excuse the kinda off-topic subject, but that's what happens sometimes
when we are all inextricably linked via computers these days. A friend of
mine asked if I would post it here because of the link with photography
and its history. He is helping to construct a "Lighthouses in the Movies"
Web Page and had read the following query on another list:
-----------------
I once saw (on TV) a documentary about a guy
(a Scottish immigrant?) who invented a motion
picture camera, but ended up being squashed by
Thomas Edison (inventor of a rival method).

A good part of the show featured Fire Island
lighthouse as a backdrop, yet I cannot remember
the title or even the name of the inventor.
It might have been a PBS or Discovery channel
        production...

That lighthouse (and Montauk) is used often since
it is so close to NYC.
-------------------------
If you can assist with info to help him track down this inventor, or
maybe the name of the PBS special, I am sure he, and ultimately many
lighthouse afficionados, would appreciate it.
