Re: New Gadget
>It's a viewer available from Technical Enterprices, Bonnie Doon, California.
The information that Patrick so kindly provided is correct. The viewer is
a modification of the Star-D viewer sold by Reel 3-D. The company which
mades the TECO viewer has bought and modified the dies used for the Star-D
viewer (and Brumberger viewer earlier). That's why the last batch of
Star-D viewers (model II) are described as "ugly" in the Reel 3-d catalog.
The TECO viewer can be used to preview uncut film strips from either
Realist or Nimslo rolls. It reverses L to R via a set of mirrors. It
comes with a choice of two tops, the second used for regular viewing of
mounted stereo pairs. The bottom has been modified to take C size
batteries (and not D as do the Star-D and Brumberger).
I bought a TECO viewer and plan to study it and include it in a future
viewer book covering the Brumberger/Star-D viewer variations. I have not
had the chance to use the viewer since I am not known for keeping uncut
rolls for too long. Mounting is my favorite part of the 3-d experience.
John Duke's idea is clever... I wonder why it took so long for someone to
come up with it. I see a great interest from all projector owners. One
advantage of using the projector to preview the uncut roll (vs. a viewer)
is that the R to L reversal is not a problem. This can be easily achieved
by switching the polarizers or just turning the viewing glasses upside
down. Have that in mind when you project slides and wonder how the pseudo
mounted version of this slide might look. You can have the answer in a
second.
Good luck with your project John! Looking forward to seeing you and the
gadget in Rochester.
