NSA Rochester

Dateline Rochester - Thurs. 8:15am EDT

Early arrivals Wednesday indicate a successful and busy convention - by
day's end at least 30 listings had appeared on the "official" room-hopping
guide posted near the bank of elevators in the lobby.

Hotel officials report that half of the hotel's 450 room capacity had been
booked within the NSA Reserved Block, and it was known that others,
apparently traveling incognito, were booked under "other arrangements" -
weekend specials, etc. Doubling up and room sharing, up to 4 in at least
one case, also contributed to attendance figures, with the number of
Convention Registrants passing the 600 mark before registration officially
opened here.

Wednesday afternoon and evening's activities centered on room-hopping and
meals, with 36 hours to go until the opening ceremonies on Friday morning.
This reporter noted particularly heavy traffic in Dalia Miller and Harry
Poster's establishments, with large selections of VM reels, 3-d cameras,
projectors, books, slide sets, viewers foreign and domestic, barrels of old
stand-bys such as Realists, Kodaks, TDCs, Reveres, and rarer breeds such as
at least one Simca, several Busch Verascopes, a few Owlas, etc.

These establishments are serving as hubs for pre-convention social life, as
opposed to the more staid, contemplative settings of rooms catering more to
card collectors, where library-like quiet is the order of the day.

Today, Thursday, should bring more of the same, with more dealers checking
in hourly, and set-up, testing, and rehearsal at the Stereo Theatre, as
well as on-site registration commencing at 1pm, where members and friends
will also have a chance to register for the annual Stereoscopic Society
Dinner, to be held Friday night at a penthouse banquet room overlooking the
city and the hills to the south beyond.

Your reporter,
Dick Twichell
Program Director and assistant projectionist
