Rochester-whether you want it or not!

I'm back!

I know, I know....you've already heard more than enough about the
convention, but I wanted to throw in a couple sentences too....as well as
drop some names:

This was my first convention, and I was pretty nervous about meeting
everyone face to face. Things like this can go either way: people will
like you just as much in person as they do on the discussion group (as I
know everyone just loves me to death), or they will have a rude awakening
when they realize, as in my case, that I'm just some young punk. Well, my
fears were unfounded and the highlight of the whole thing was definitely
meeting everyone.

Dr.Themelis was very cool in person, and so was Harry Poster and his
lovely wife (we had a table next to one another at the trade show), and
then there's the dynamic duo of Wolfgang and Mary Ann, the every energetic
Dalia with her walkie-talkie in hand (it even appears in my VM picture of
her!). My roommate, Alex Klein, is even more of a 3D freako than me, which
was nice because I could say to my girlfriend when I got home "Well, at
least I didn't spend as much as my roommate!". Bob "radio guy" Stern was
always entertaining with his words of encouragement and dj voice...thanks
Bob! Dr.Dieter Lorenz was very inspiring to speak with, and meeting a
number of poeple who have played a part in my VM Chip Swaps. There were
tons of other people I'd like to thank for making my trip so special...and
you know who you are. I'll finish this brief list with my good friend,
Lincoln, who helped me make up good nicknames for people and reminded me to
eat (I typically forgot to eat anything till around 7pm!). I won't even
try to describe some of the 'all you can eat' places we found ourselves in!

The event was definitely a lot smaller than I had pictured, as far as
attendance, but the quality of people made up for it. I would have also

enjoyed seeing some 3D films, having not seen any of the classics...maybe
we can work it in for next year's. The kind words about my new View-Master
reel (see the ad for it in my next posting!) were really great and I'm
already hard at work on the next production!

Finally, my best observation was that even though everyone at the con
is interested in 3D, there is a HUGE spectrum of styles, themes, formats,
and people who collect. The way I see it is that this is what ensures 3D's
survival. It really is limitless what 3D can be applied to.
