Hi,
I'm convinced there is a future for 3D movies and that one day it will be as
common as "talkies" are now. Especially after seiing "Wings of courage" 3D
IMAX movie on Navy Pier in Chicago this summer. 3D added really so much to
the sensation.
This is probably the most advanced commercial 3D film procede around.
Still, technical projection related problems aside, directors don't seem to
be able to restrain themselfs for as far as the "gimmic" syndrom is
concerned. At several points in the film there were "ultra"close ups, people
walking by (on the screen), objects flying into the audience. I hate that.
Although I freeview without problem and my eyes are used to 3D stuff, my
eyes twichted and I had to close them several times for a few seconds.
(Pehaps because there is also motion involved). Another example was a
trailer for a film which showed a shark swimming into the audience. It was
spectacular up to the point the shark came so close I apparently couldn't
fuse anymore. It hurt. I discussed it with other people. They had the same
problem. Their reaction was: "fantastic as a gimmic but no longer than 40
minuts please or I get a headdache".
That's really sad because the scenary and the interiors were of breathtaking
realism.
Patrick.
