John I'm not an expert, just 26 years of experience in law enforcement.
My 2 cents worth: The answer to all your questions is "yes". All of the
above locations that you have identified are also the places where the
criminal looks. I have traveled somewhat myself, I find that for those
"realy" valuable things the Hotels Safe or Safety Deposit boxes are the
best. I sure that isn't the answer that you are looking for but until all
criminals are behind bars, your things, my things and your neighbors
things may be at risk. Sorry.

I attend a "police" conference in Phoenix a while back, 175 cops in
attendance. Several officers had their motel rooms ransacked, one officer
had his car stolen and another lost his p-shooter! Now if the men in blue
aren't safe, where does that leave you!

I have been lucky, I travel mostly by car and have never had anything
stolen from my vehicle or motel room. I follow some simple rules. Nothing
of value is in open view. All valuables are either in the trunk or at
least covered. In my motel room all items of value are again out of
sight. However this certainly isn't going to stop the person who really
wants your stuff.

I guess we can all stay home, stand guard over our "stuff" and never
leave it unguarded.....but I'll be damned if I'm going to let the
criminal element win! When society decides they have had enough of this
misery, then things will change......until then, enjoy your travels and
keep up the insurance policies!!!!
