Alan...well you are partially right..color neg film RECORDS more range, 
but on the other hand prints can show as much by reflection as an 
illuminated or projected slide. I think you will find that ALL color 
film pos or neg is restricted to about + or - 2 stops in getting the 
exposure right. With slides you err (favor) underexposure and with color 
neg overexposure if you are not sure. But outdoors exposure is not 
difficult. I have shot thousands of pix using the Sunny 16 rule and the 
offsets of the Kodak cardboard calculator. (Sunny 16 rule is with the 
sun behind you in a clear sky, shoot at f/16 with the film speed as your 
shutter speed..e.g. Kodachome ASA/ISO 25 needs 1/25 sec at f/16). BobH
3D in a viewer with transparnecy films makes prints suck to be current 
in terminology. BobH
