3D Movie poll

        Last night was the opening reception for the 'Mandate Of Heaven'
exhibit, the show my recent VM reel was made for, and I gave the public a
special treat...a 3D slide show!  Not exactly a big deal to people on this
list, but it is, as far as I know, the first public 3D slide show in
Victoria since the 50's (probably lots of private shows since then).

        Everyone went through the obvious laughter over putting on the 3D
glasses, but were blown away by the actual effect on the screen!  I used my
Stereomatic 500 and an 8" screen so the image was quite large and
impressive.

        The show began with a selection of five reels from the Gruber
Foundation Chinese Art set and then the reel I made for the exhibition.
There were a number of "WOW"s and "OOOHH"s, which pleased the pants off the
curator who is planning on giving a series of 3D lectures in the Fall (with
my help, of course).

        While handing out the glasses I overheard a number of people
comment on how the glasses weren't red and blue.  Just for fun I took an
impromtu poll to see how many people remember whether they watched
polarizer or anaglyphic movies in the 50's.  The majority of people
remembered the red and blue glasses.

        My own thoughts on the debate are that the image of the red and
blue glasses was much more striking in advertisements, so no matter if the
projection was going to be in polarization, the ads presented the easily
recognizable anaglyph glasses.  I believe this is the image that has stuck
with the public and formed the perception that ALL the movies they watched
in 3D were anaglyph, whether it was the case or not.
