more of the Contura Story

It has been reported here that there was 1 Contura for sale at the NSA
National Convention in Rochester. There were 2. Amazing for a camera this
scarce!. The first one definitely sold and it's uncertain to me whether the
second with the "identification" scratches on the underside sold or not. I
know the owner, so if any of you are interested in pursuing this further,
let me know.

As for the cache of Contura material, recently a lucky individual was able
to buy much of the patent information, original drawings by Seton Rochwite,
some unassembled parts along with a prototype of the camera. I saw a
beautiful color drawing of a Contura Viewer along with a rough pencil sketch
of another viewer signed by Seton R. The prototype of the camera looks
surprisingly similar to the Belplasca, as viewed from the front.

It's a wonderful find from the historical perspective of stereo camera
development. The owner is sorting through all the material and plans to
share it with everyone when he is finished.
