Contura Stereo Camera

I find the discussion of prices for the Contura camera to be quite
interesting. Harry Poster gave a reference that a mint example
should be worth (book value) about $1500-$2000. Since he was not
able to buy an example for $2000, apparently the book value has
little meaning in this instance. For an item of great rarity such as
this, it appears that the "value" should be listed as "Speculative".
Obviously then the actual value of a Contura will be set when a
willing and able seller (extremely rare) and willing and able buyer
(somewhat less rare but dependent upon negotiating skills) meet and
are able to arrive at an agreement.

The fact that the Contura camera that was for sale in Rochester went
unsold for several days indicates that it is apparent not worth the
asking price of $3,000. I wonder what one would bring if it were
placed in a Sotheby's Auction and thereby be offered to a world wide
market
