These two extracts from the two quotes above sums it up quite nicely.
The tourists spots basically treat the VM with indifference since
its a toy and the general public still thinks of the VM as a toy.
But why is that? Basically Bob answers that in his question in why
can't Tyco get more aggressive in their marketing. So why doesn't
Tyco go after the adult market? Seems to me their is a market there
as there was before the late 70's. Oh well it seems Wrebbit will be
happy to fill that void with their 3Discover!
I think many in this group remeber or know that before the 70's they
produced alot of adult titles and had good quality projectors and viewers.
The projector they market now is a nice design but their optics is the
worst. At least they haven't screwed up their viewer. When you approach
people about VM I think we all have heard their first thought. Oh yea
I used to have one when I was a kid. Why don't they have one now?
Tyco's marketing is why. By the way I went to see Imax's Across the Sea
of Time in Montreal but they didn't have the VM reels of it!
They did have the reproductions of the stereo cards.
Finally in the race for which place to hold a NSA convention in the
future I propose Montreal. Now I know the recent discussions have
mentioned theres a custom problem but hey, what happened to our
free trade deal. I don't know the details but shouldn't it have
taken care of things like this. I do know some aspects of it are
being phased in gradually. Maybe by that time these new aspects
will have been phased in. I would be happy to see it held
anywhere in Canada but since I live in Montreal, I will promote
this city. Here you will get a more international atmosphere since
Montreal is a bilingual city. French is the official language but
English is widely spoken and doesn't pose a problem for tourists.
Also Montreal is well suited for conventions since it attracts
major organizations from around North America and the world. The Lions
Club for example held a convention here recently. Montreal also
has one of the most festivals in North America. We have the Just
for Laughs Festival which attracts all the big names in Hollywood,
Jazz festival, the world fireworks competition, and alot more.
ICAO the aeronutical organization is also situated here. Montreal
also hosted Expo 67 and the 76 Olympics. Plus if we hold it here
maybe we can get a tour of where they make the famous 3Discover!
Anyways I can go on and on but back to the subject of 3d.
I'd like to share this piece of trivia. Where does the word
for lens originate. It comes from beans. Yes you heard right
(or read). A specific bean that is. Lentils! Now why is that.
It's because of the shape of lentils is roughly the same as the
shape of a lens or double-convex lens with 6mm diamater and
10mm focal length (just kidding about the specs). The french
word for lens is lentille.
Bye for now.
