Dear Alan,
In your case, DO use print film. Then have made into 3.5" x 5" prints (4x6
is okay, but makes the seperation very wide unless you crop). From there you
will have to mount them by hand, but it's easier than hand mounting slides.
The problems concerning print film actually only apply when using a Realist
format (5 perf) camera: photo processors do not have a mask for the print
size. They wind up with a slice of each adjacent frame which throws off
their automatic equipment. The stereo pairs don't match in exposure, color,
etc.
My first stereoscopic photos were made with 2 Kodak "disposable" cameras and
turned out pretty decent. Don't worry. Just have fun!
Yours,
Robert Linnstaedt
