To me, anyway, the important thing is to get started with whatever equipment
you've got! Since your camera pair is best suited for print film, load it
with print film and take some pictures! Actually, since you're using full-frame
35mm cameras, I guess you do need to know a little about what the final format
is going to look like before you shoot so that you know how much of the frame
you're going to use. If you're going to get ordinary prints from a
photofinisher and view them with a ViewMagic, you can use the full frame and
not worry about it, so that seems like the simplest route. If you want to make
classic-format stereo cards, you'll only want to use a roughly-square portion
of the frame. Hope this doesn't muddy the waters too much...
As someone else suggested, you can get slides made from print film by
sending it to Dale Labs (amoung others), and they can compensate (to a limited
extent) for poor exposure. You would then end up with either pairs of ordinary
2x2 slides, which could be viewed in a viewer available from Reel 3-D, or
a pair of uncut filmstrips that you'd have to cut and mount yourself
(if you're using a pair of full-frame cameras rather than a Realist-format
camera, you almost certainly CAN'T get them mounted by Kodalux). If you mount
your own, how much of the frame you use is determined by the mount you put
them in--the usual Realist 5-perf mounts use only a roughly-square portion of
the frame, but you could get 7-perf mounts that use considerably more of
it--7-perf would therefore probably be the way to go if you went the
mount-your-own route.
Anyway, best of luck, and have fun!
