One reason, I think, is that the name of the company is Tyco TOYS. Their entire
marketing and distribution is geared toward toys. The cost and effort of
distributing one product in an entirely different manner and to an entirely
different audience than all of their other products would be prohibitive,
especially since the adult market for View-Master reels would probably not be
too much larger than the active membership of this list. Back when there were a
greater variety of reels available, View-Master was not owned by a toy company,
and its marketing strategy was different, although even then it was geared
primarily toward the youth market.
