The bulk of the message was a good summation of the kinds of comments that are
made here every day. I frankly reacted quite strongly to the implications in the
wording of the opening paragraph, with its sarcastic reference to the "almighty"
Realist, followed by a couple of equally mocking comments and its final
chest-thumping anthem of being "PROUD" to not use the Realist (not, mind you,
being "proud" of using this or that or the other, but merely being "proud" of
NOT using the Realist). I have read it over again several times, and my opinion
stands--this was written by someone who is apparently convinced that the
majority of people on this list are fossilized old cretins who worship
mindlessly at the altar of the Realist and have no reason for doing so other
than our ignorant belief that "it's old, so it's got to be better." Well, I've
been reading this list for a couple of years now, at least, and I've seldom if
ever encountered that attitude here! Sure a lot of people here like the Realist.
It IS the standard--and it has been for over half a century. But there is a
tremendous amount of interest here in virtually every shade and flavor of
stereography from the oldest to the most cutting-edge. Every point that was
summarized in this posting has been made here before. Repeatedly. And it will be
made again. The problem is frankly that I don't appreciate being lectured to,
and I don't think anyone on the list NEEDS to be lectured to. In short, I was
not reacting to the information in the posting, I was only reacting to the fact
that the poster was so certain that by summarizing our own past conversations as
though it was brand new information he was gratiously sharing with us unthinking
old bats, he was somehow flinging open the doors and allowing a breath of fresh
air to clear away all of our cobwebs.
